Taiwan-based Opus to begin trial production of MEMS scanning mirror chips in 3Q09 國人自製的掃描鏡

Hans Wu, Taipei; Meiling Chen, DIGITIMES [Monday 15 June 2009]

Opus Microsystems will enter trial production of scanning mirror chips for micro projectors in the third quarter with revenue contributions expected to begin in 2010. Opus will initially target China's white-box handset market, the company added.

Opus' scanning mirror chips are currently manufactured on Taiwan's Industrial Technology Research Institute's (ITRI's) 4-inch wafer production line. The company will soon begin mass production at 8-inch fabs of other MEMS foundries to reduce the chip size as well as help reduce the size of micro projectors by 50%.

The company plans to complete the design of the photomask for the 8-inch wafer fabrication facility by August 2009 and begin small trial production in the third quarter at the earliest.
